FAQs
I’m nervous about starting therapy. Is that normal?
How do I know if my counselor is the right therapist for me?
Take your time here. Look around, feel it out. If something you’re reading resonates—if you’re thinking “maybe this could help”—you’re welcome to reach out.
I offer a free phone consult where you can ask anything: what sessions are like, how I’ve helped others in similar situations, or just talk through what’s been coming up for you. There’s no pressure—just a real conversation to see if this feels like a good fit.
The first few sessions are more like a test drive. You’ll get a feel for what it’s like to work together, and we’ll check in along the way. My approach won’t be right for everyone—and that’s okay. What matters most is that you find the support that feels right for you.
If that ends up being with me, I’d be honored. And if not, I’ll help you find someone who’s a better fit. Either way, you’re not alone in this. Schedule your free 30 minute consultation here.
What if I don’t want to talk about something?
It makes total sense if there are things you’re not ready to talk about. Some stories are heavy. Some wounds feel too raw. In our sessions, you get to decide what you share and when. Nothing gets pushed, rushed, or pried open.
My job is to create a space where you can go there—if and when you're ready. We’ll move at your pace, not mine.
And if you’re feeling nervous to open up about something? You can say that too. That feeling belongs in the room just as much as anything else. Whatever’s coming up—whether it’s fear, hesitation, or overwhelm—we can talk about that first. All of you is welcome here.
I’m scared that if I open up, you will think I’m crazy.
If you open up to me, I won’t think you’re crazy—I’ll think you’re brave.
So many of my clients have carried that same fear… “What if I’m too much?” or “What if they think something’s wrong with me?”
I want you to know: your reactions make sense. You’re not being dramatic. You’re not overreacting. You’re human—and likely responding in very real ways to really hard things.
The truth is, many of us are overwhelmed, especially when we've had to hold it all together for too long. Your experience isn’t abnormal. It's your nervous system doing what it had to do to survive.
In our sessions, you’ll have space to be fully seen and heard—with no judgment, no shame. Just a calm, grounded place where we take your story seriously and treat you with the respect you’ve always deserved.
Does what we talk about in therapy remain confidential?
It’s completely normal to worry about privacy—especially if you’re used to keeping things to yourself or feeling like you have to protect others from your truth.
So let me say this clearly: what you share in therapy stays between us. Unless you’re in danger of hurting yourself or someone else, everything you say is kept private.
Your story is yours. And protecting that—your privacy, your trust—is something I take seriously.
If you ever have questions about how confidentiality works, we can talk about it anytime—during your free consult or whenever it comes up in our work together. You deserve to feel safe sharing what’s real for you.
How long will therapy take?
If you’re wondering how long therapy will take, you’re probably feeling overwhelmed and just want to feel better soon. That’s completely valid.
Most of my clients start to notice small shifts—feeling a little more grounded, a little more hopeful—after the first few sessions. Sometimes just having a space to exhale makes a big difference.
As for how long therapy lasts? That really depends on you. Some people come for a few months to work through something specific. Others find that longer-term support gives them space to go deeper and heal at their own pace.
We’ll figure that out together, based on what you need—not a fixed timeline.
What can I expect during the first session?
Think of the first session as a two-way conversation—not an interview, and definitely not an interrogation. It’s simply a chance for us to start getting to know each other.
I’ll invite you to share a bit about what’s been going on, what led you here, and what’s helped (or hasn’t helped) in the past. You don’t have to have perfect answers—just whatever feels okay to share.
Some things I might ask include:
What’s been feeling heavy or hard lately?
Have you tried therapy before? What was that like?
What would you hope to get out of this work together?
And you’re more than welcome to ask me questions too—about how I work, how I’ve helped others like you, or even what drew me to this kind of work.
The most important part of that first session is seeing how you feel in the room. Do you feel heard? Safe? A little more at ease? If it feels like a good fit, we can talk about what comes next—at your pace.
How can I get started?
I offer a free 30 minute phone consultation so you can share what’s been going on and ask any questions you might have. We’ll talk it through and see if this feels like the right next step for you.
Whenever you’re ready, you can schedule your consultation here. Let’s figure it out together.
